Head of Finance

The Head of Finance leads the finance, accounting, and human resources functions at Angstrom, with a team of seven. It is a hands-on leadership role with real breadth: you will own the integrity of our financial systems and internal controls, partner with the senior leadership team on performance, and act as our primary relationship with auditors, bankers, and tax advisors.

Our environment will keep you interested. We operate in multiple currencies, our revenue is earned through job costing and percentage-of-completion recognition, we finance international transactions with letters of credit, and we file an annual SR&ED claim. We are owner-operated, and you will have direct access to decision makers and the latitude to improve how things are done.

What You Will Own

Financial Reporting, Planning, and Analysis

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and lead the annual budget and ongoing forecasting.
  • Analyze performance to surface trends, risks, and opportunities, and develop KPIs that support business strategy.
  • Present financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership in plain language.

Systems, Controls, and Compliance

  • Maintain and improve our financial systems so they stay accurate, reliable, and able to scale with the business.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation that safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, payroll remittances, and WSIB reporting, and oversee fixed assets, capital expenditures, and inventory valuation.
  • Manage cash flow, foreign exchange exposure, letters of credit, and banking relationships.

Team and External Partners

  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team, and partner with other departments to streamline workflows and improve data quality.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and coordinate audit, tax, insurance, and SR&ED activities.

Human Resources

  • Oversee the HR function, including payroll, benefits administration, compensation, and performance management support.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning.

What You Bring

  • A university degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and a CPA designation.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial and cost accounting, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven leadership of a finance team, with the judgment to also guide an HR function.
  • The ability to translate financial data into business insight and communicate it clearly at every level of the organization.
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, and a continuous improvement mindset — you like tackling problems that do not come with a playbook.

Why Angstrom

  • A broad mandate. You are the senior finance voice in the company, not one layer in a large hierarchy.
  • Genuinely interesting work: advanced technology, international customers, and complex job costing rather than routine bookkeeping.
  • A stable, profitable, privately held business with more than 30 years of history and a strong reputation.
  • Flexible hours, a competitive compensation and benefits package, and a clean, safe, and enjoyable place to work.
What Makes This Role Great
